What Families Should Know About a Possible SPS Educator Strike

The Bagley PTA is not taking a position in these negotiations. Our role is to support the well-being and quality education of all of our children, and to make sure families have clear information as this situation develops.

WHAT'S HAPPENING

The Seattle Public Schools district and the Seattle Educators Association (SEA) — the union representing about 6,000 educators across the district — are currently negotiating a new contract.

On Wednesday, August 26th, SEA members voted to authorize a strike if an agreement is not reached by Tuesday, September 1st at 11:59 PM.

This is not a decision that a strike will happen. A strike authorization gives SEA leadership the option to call a strike, but it does not mean one is guaranteed. Negotiations are ongoing, and we are watching to see how they unfold before the start of the school year.

IF A STRIKE HAPPENS: CHILDCARE OPTION

Boys & Girls Clubs of King County has shared the following contingency plan, in case of a strike:

• The Bagley site will be closed.

• Three other sites will be open 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM: Wallingford Boys & Girls Club, North Seattle Boys & Girls Club, and View Ridge Boys & Girls Club.

• Cost is $25/day.

Lo que las familias deben saber sobre una posible huelga de educadores de SPS

La Asociación de Padres y Maestros (PTA) de Bagley no está adoptando una postura en estas negociaciones. Nuestra función es apoyar el bienestar y la educación de calidad de todos nuestros niños, así como asegurar que las familias cuenten con información clara a medida que evoluciona esta situación.

LO QUE ESTÁ SUCEDIENDO

El distrito de Escuelas Públicas de Seattle y la Asociación de Educadores de Seattle (SEA), el sindicato que representa a unos 6.000 educadores en todo el distrito, están negociando actualmente un nuevo contrato.

El miércoles 26 de agosto, los miembros de SEA votaron para autorizar una huelga si no se llega a un acuerdo antes del martes 1 de septiembre a las 11:59 p.m.

Esta no es una decisión de que vaya a haber una huelga. La autorización de huelga otorga a la dirección de la SEA la opción de convocar una huelga, pero no garantiza que esta vaya a producirse. Las negociaciones continúan y estamos atentos a su evolución antes del inicio del año escolar.

• Otros tres sitios estarán abiertos de 8:00 a. m. a 6:00 p. m.: Wallingford Boys & Girls Club, North Seattle Boys & Girls Club y View Ridge Boys & Girls Club.

• El costo es de 25 dólares al día.
