Spring is in the air. Time to tune up the bikes and get riding. We will be holding Bagley’s 3rd annual Bike Rodeo on Saturday, April 29 from 1-3:30pm on the playground. We are in the planning stages but wanted you to save the date for lots of fun cycling activities. We are planning on having some obstacle courses and safety stations as well as a performance by a unicycle troupe, a mechanic for tune ups, and a supplies for decorating your bikes – group rides around Green Lake for older students are a possibility. Outdoors for All will also be present with some adaptive bikes for all to try. Please email Brooke Doyle (email@example.com) if you can volunteer that day (and/or in advance to help us plan) or visit www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0D4BADAF2CAB9-dbebike1. The more volunteers we have, the more activities we can have. Thank you and stay tuned!
Now is the time to make your voice heard!

The PTA Budget Survey is live, and waiting for your input. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts with the PTA Budget Committee, so that we can begin the 2017-2018 budget planning process with your priorities in mind.
Thanks for all you do to help us raise these funds!

Ms. Carla Holmes has been selected as the new principal for Daniel Bagley Elementary School. Ms. Holmes is currently the literacy and math interventionist at Bagley, which will support a very smooth transition into her new leadership position.
The interview team, comprised of classroom and building staff, and family and community members, was impressed with Ms. Holmes and her strong experience in multiple areas of elementary school leadership and passion for closing achievement gaps, especially for our students of color and English Language Learner (ELL) families. In addition to having a clear understanding on the complexity of Bagley’s multiple educational programs, they also appreciated her desire to redefine what successful family engagement looks like for all families, her love of student learning and her experience with opening and closing a school — especially as Bagley prepares for the renovation project in two years.
Prior to joining Bagley as the math and literacy interventionist, Ms. Holmes served as the principal of Cedarhurst Elementary in Highline School District, the coordinator of ELL Programs in Highline School District, the literacy/social studies coordinator in Highline School District, and the ELL facilitator/ELD instructor at Lake Hills Elementary in Bellevue School District. Before becoming an administrator, Ms. Holmes was a team teacher in the ELL program at White Center Heights Elementary in the Highline School District. She earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees from Seattle University, as well as her administrative certification. Ms. Holmes is replacing Principal Erika Ayer, who recently was appointed principal of Sanislo Elementary in West Seattle. Ms. Ayer is thrilled that Ms. Holmes was selected by the committee and has offered her support during the transition period.
As hiring is always a challenge during summer months, we especially want to thank the Daniel Bagley staff and community who volunteered their time and energy during the interview process. The selection of Ms. Holmes is representative of the great work that this team accomplished. Ms. Holmes will work with staff and PTSA members to schedule opportunities for building staff, families and the Bagley students to meet their new principal in the coming weeks.
Please join me in welcoming Ms. Holmes as the new principal of Daniel Bagley Elementary School.
